About us

Ikke i rute is about making room for different perspectives and finding new ways to move forward together.

In Denmark, when a bus displays “Ikke i rute”, it means it's not following its usual path — it's out of service, unavailable to passengers.

Rather than following predefined paths, we seek to expand the map, creating fresh trajectories, through artistic and scientific collaboration. We navigate overlooked histories, open space for new voices, and contribute to exchanges that cross national and institutional boundaries.

Ikke i rute reflects both a refusal of linearity and a commitment to the multiplicity of futures. We operate from the belief that what is often considered peripheral are in fact central to contemporary cultural production.

Denmark is an ideal place to anchor such an initiative. With one of the oldest ethnographic collections in the world, dating back to the Royal Danish Kunstkammer of the 17th century, the country holds a long and complex history of documenting global material culture. This legacy, with its layered networks of exchange, migration, and representation, offers fertile ground for reimagining how we relate to knowledge, identity, and cultural memory today.

Who are we?

We are Sacra and Letícia and Ikke i Rute is our love letter to the world. We share a passion for research, cultural work, and making knowledge accessible, relevant and engaging. We work transnationally and across disciplinary practices bringing in our expertise in teaching, curating and advocacy in academia, museums, cultural institutions, and NGOs.

Letícia is a curator and cultural researcher focused on decolonial perspectives, accessibility, and interdisciplinary collaboration. Sacra is first and foremost a teacher, passionate about co-creating learning experiences through collaboration and outreach. Our combined life experience has taken us to work at universities, think tanks and cultural organizations across Europe, the US, and Latin America.

Together, we work at the intersection of research and practice, exploring new ways to engage audiences, foster dialogue, and challenge dominant narratives in museums and cultural spaces.
